Yep, Network Solutions one of the first domain registrars on the net has been and still are locking the purchase of domains from other registrars when searching for the availability of the domain using their search tool. I think it’s something like 4-5 days until it will be released again. I was searching for a domain name recently on their site that I wanted to purchase. Then I went over to godaddy.com to purchase the domain at a cheaper rate. Network Solutions I will say has great tech support but, when you just need a domain name, use godaddy.com. They have a reasonable support staff but, if you’re hosting your web site elsewhere anyway, then their support isn’t really needed all that much anyway. Ok, I’m getting off the subject. I went to purchase the domain at godaddy.com after seeing it as available on Network Solutions. Sure enough I look for it on godaddy.com and boom. It’s gone. No way. Something was up. There’s no way within 5 seconds someone happen to snag the 10 domains I was looking for. So, I called godaddy.com to see if it was a mistake in their system. Nope, Godaddy revealed to me that Network Solutions locks the domain when searched for and not bought on their site from any other registrar purchasing it for x amount of days in which case after it will then be released back into the domain pool. That’s absolutely rediculous. I did a little research and found that some people are trying to fight back with a possible class-action litigation being brought against Network Solutions. So, keep in mind this means that it’s possible that if you’re searching for a domain, check back with your registrar and try again if it shows unavailable because, it just might be that someone searched for the very same domain name on Network Solutions days before. I personally think Godaddy has some of the best deals around for single and bulk domain purchases. Be careful of some really cheap registrars as the fine print might say you are only renting the domain name and you don’t really own it. I know either way you look at it, you don’t really own it but, you get what I mean.
